Bio-electronic Device With Reversible Adhesion and Rapid Biofluid Capture for De
2021-04-09

Researchers from Sungkyunkwan University and Yonsei University in South Korea have for the first time proposed an all-in-one smart adhesive design strategy. Benefiting from soft bionic micro-plungers, this bio-electronic device readily captures biofluids (skin moisture) inside the stratum corneum on human-skin surfaces to support continuous skin-health analysis.

The heterogeneous bionic nanostructure put forward in the research tackles three major bottlenecks confronting conventional skin-interfaced equipment: (1) Convenient acquisition of skin biofluids; (2) Integration of colorimetric sensors and machine-learning frameworks for fast, precise pH detection; (3) High biocompatibility and reversible attachment to irregular human skin under both dry and wet circumstances.

The relevant research was published in the top-tier international journal Science Advances, under the full-length title Diving beetle-like miniaturized plungers with reversible, rapid biofluid capturing for machine learning-based care of skin disease.
